Who We Are

A Personal “Welcome” from President Cathy Barber:

Thank you for your interest in this vital organization, which started in 1965 to support the newly formed Youth Homes, Inc., and the needs of neglected, abandoned and abused children and young adults. Through the Auxiliary’s efforts, in the past year we provided scholarships to over a dozen Agency clients. These young people are attending local community colleges, Sacramento State and University of San Francisco. Three of them will attain their BAs in June 2016!

Beyond education, we support daily needs for clothing, sports and creative supplies, back to school items and holiday gifts. And we don’t simply provide items, we give experiences: birthday celebrations, trips to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the beach (which some had never before seen), Water World, Great America, the movies and more. The touching letters of thanks and photo of these special days are a testimony to the difference we make in their lives.

Please consider joining our organization and become involved in our meetings and fundraisers – a strong membership base is crucial to our success. Our meetings are held every other month. We discuss business, plan our events, and enjoy some fellowship.

As for fundraisers, the Thrift Shop is our largest, contributing over $50,000 last year, a great increase over previous years. Our new Spring Event, Monte Carlo Night, was a smashing success in 2015! But it’s not all about fundraising, as we also need help shopping for the residents from their own holiday wish lists, along with wrapping and assisting the staff to get the items to the houses.

I’m so excited and honored to be the Auxiliary’s new President and look forward to a great year. Let’s work together to continue the tradition of making the place where “Hope Lives and Grows” a reality![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
